28 Jan Red Deer Friday Back Marker Classic is back!
The Red Deer Friday Back Marker Classic is a premier open medley stroke event hosted at McLeod Country Golf Club, welcoming both men and women who hold a current AGU handicap. Designed to challenge and reward players of all levels, the event showcases the full character of McLeod’s 18-hole layout, which carries a slope rating of 132 and is renowned for its strategic risk-and-reward play. Each round is presented in full tournament condition, with the course meticulously prepared by the club’s Greenkeeping team and supported by official pin placement cards to ensure a consistent and professional competitive experience.
McLeod Country Golf Club is proud to be a participating venue in the Western Suburbs Challenge, alongside Oxley Golf Club, Gailes Golf Club, and Wolston Park Golf Club. This inter-club series provides players with the opportunity to compete regularly across some of the region’s most respected courses, fostering strong competition and a sense of community among participating clubs. The Red Deer Friday Back Marker Classic forms an integral part of this monthly challenge and continues to attract a strong and diverse field of competitors.
The event is conducted as an open medley stroke competition, with tee times available from 6:00am through to 12:30pm, allowing flexibility for players to fit competition golf into their schedules. Entry fees are set at $27.00 for members and $37.00 for visitors, with green fees included. All entries also include a beef burger from the Golfers Menu, valued at $15.00, offering excellent overall value for participants. Members of clubs included in the Western Suburbs Challenge receive the member entry rate.
Prize pools are structured to reward performance and participation, with competitive payouts based on field size. By way of example, a field of 45 players would see a winner’s prize of $120.00, runner-up receiving $60.00, third place awarded $40.00, and additional prizes distributed across the rundown to recognise consistent scoring throughout the field.
