Exciting Handiskins Final

McLeod Country Golf Club recently hosted the highly anticipated $1,200 Handiskins Final, which was played on Saturday, 16 May 2026. The event brought together four deserving finalists who had earned their place through a series of competitive qualifying rounds throughout the season, culminating in a thrilling contest that showcased both skill and determination.

The Handiskins competition continues to be one of the club’s most popular events, providing members with the opportunity to test their game under pressure while competing for significant prize money and the chance to advance to a national stage. This year’s final certainly lived up to expectations, delivering an entertaining and closely contested competition for both participants and spectators alike.

Emerging as the standout performer on the day was Oliver Simmons, who produced an impressive display of golf to claim the championship title and the winner’s share of the prize pool. Simmons’ consistent play and composure throughout the final earned him a well-deserved payout of $615 and secured his place among the club’s Handiskins champions.

Finishing as runner-up was Graham Fairweather, who also demonstrated excellent golf throughout the event. Fairweather’s strong performance was rewarded with a prize of $315. The remaining finalists, Cory Jost and John Hawthorne, each competed admirably and shared in the prize fund, receiving $135 apiece.

While the prize money was certainly a rewarding outcome for all four finalists, the opportunities ahead may prove even more exciting. As finalists in the McLeod Country Golf Club Handiskins competition, Simmons, Fairweather, Jost and Hawthorne will each receive an invitation to represent the club at the Handiskins National Final, which will be held on the Gold Coast in May 2027.

The National Final is regarded as one of the premier amateur golf events on the Handiskins calendar, attracting successful qualifiers from clubs across Australia. Competitors will have the opportunity to test their skills against some of the country’s best amateur golfers while competing for a coveted national title. In addition to the prestige associated with the event, participants will also be playing for a share of more than $30,000 in prizes and giveaways.

Events such as Handiskins continue to play an important role in fostering friendly competition, encouraging participation, and creating memorable experiences for club members. The format rewards both strategic play and consistency, making it an exciting contest for golfers of all handicap levels and a favourite fixture on the club’s annual calendar.

McLeod Country Golf Club congratulates Oliver Simmons on his outstanding victory and extends its congratulations to Graham Fairweather, Cory Jost and John Hawthorne for their excellent performances throughout the competition.
