Chase the Dream

Chase the Dream

Young Australian golfer Chase Oberle continues to make the most of an extraordinary international golfing journey, representing his country on some of the world’s most prestigious courses while gaining invaluable experience both on and off the fairways.

Over recent months, Chase has enjoyed what many golfers would describe as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, travelling throughout the United Kingdom and competing on a collection of renowned “bucket list” golf courses. His time abroad was about much more than golf alone. Embracing every opportunity that came his way, Chase immersed himself in the culture and history of England and Scotland, exploring local towns, travelling by train, experiencing traditional accommodation and meeting passionate golfers from around the world.

Among the many highlights of the trip was a memorable visit to St Andrews, widely regarded as the Home of Golf. A tour of the R&A Test Facility, the R&A St Andrews Clubhouse and a drink overlooking the iconic Old Course added another layer to an already unforgettable experience. Chase was also fortunate to have the support of Mick and Matt as his caddies during the tournament, helping make the experience even more enjoyable and rewarding.

Throughout the tour, Chase competed on some of the most famous courses in the world, including Sunningdale, Royal Troon, Royal Liverpool, St Andrews, Carnoustie, Archerfield, Formby, Moortown, Glasgow Gailes Links, Muirfield, Clitheroe, Foxhills, West Lancashire, Wentworth and Royal Mid Surrey. Each course presented its own unique challenges and opportunities to learn.

As with any high-level sporting experience, the trip provided valuable lessons that extend beyond the scorecard. Chase discovered the true meaning of perseverance while playing in demanding weather conditions, including an afternoon field exposed to winds of more than 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching 70 kilometres per hour. He also learned the importance of adaptability, gaining firsthand experience in controlling ball flight in strong winds and developing the creativity required to recover from difficult situations when shots did not go to plan.

The trip would not have been possible without the support of the many people who contributed through the ASF Fund donation page and the live auction held to assist with travel and competition costs. Chase and his family are deeply appreciative of the generosity shown by supporters, whose contributions helped make this remarkable opportunity a reality.

The journey is far from over. Chase is currently in Japan representing Australia at the Toyota World Junior Golf Cup, competing against some of the world’s most talented young golfers. Following Japan, he will travel to the United States in early July to represent Australia at the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championships, where he will compete at the legendary Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Looking ahead, another exciting chapter awaits. In mid-August, Chase will relocate to the United States to commence his college golf career at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Before departing, McLeod Country Golf Club members and supporters may have the opportunity to see him on course for a few rounds as he prepares for this next stage of his golfing journey.

Everyone at McLeod Country Golf Club wishes Chase continued success as he proudly represents Australia on the international stage and embarks on what promises to be a bright future in the game.
