13 May Red Deer Friday Back Marker Classic
The “Red Deer” Friday Back Marker Classic at McLeod Country Golf Club offers an exciting and professionally managed golfing experience for both men and women holding a valid AGU Handicap. Conducted as an Open Medley Stroke Event, the tournament welcomes players of all skill levels who are looking to test their game on one of Brisbane’s most rewarding and challenging golf courses.
Recognised for its strategic design and tournament-quality presentation, the 18-hole championship layout at McLeod Country Golf Club features a slope rating of 132 and delivers a true risk-and-reward golfing experience. For each event, the course is prepared in tournament condition by the club’s dedicated greenkeeping team, with detailed pin placement cards provided to competitors to enhance the professional standard of play.
The Friday Back Marker Classic is also proud to form part of the Western Suburbs Challenge, a popular inter-club golfing series that includes Oxley Golf Club, Gailes Golf Club, and Wolston Park Golf Club. This collaborative competition provides players with the opportunity to experience several respected golf courses across Brisbane’s western suburbs while competing in a friendly yet highly competitive environment.
Events are held at McLeod Country Golf Club on the third Friday of each month, with tee times available from 6:00am through to 12:30pm. Scheduled dates for the upcoming season include 15 May, 19 June, 17 July, 21 August, 18 September, 16 October, 20 November, and 18 December.
The competition offers excellent value for players, with entry fees set at $27 for members and $37 for visitors. The fee includes green fees as well as a complimentary Beef Burger from the Golfers Menu, valued at $15. Players affiliated with clubs participating in the Western Suburbs Challenge may already have eligibility included as part of their club arrangements.
In addition to a quality day of golf, participants also have the chance to compete for substantial prizes. Based on a field of approximately 45 players, example prize allocations include $120 for the winner, $60 for the runner-up, and $40 for third place, along with rundown prizes awarded across an additional eight positions. These prize structures contribute to the strong participation and competitive atmosphere the event has become known for.
To participate, all players must hold a current GA Handicap and will be required to provide their official handicap number during registration. Competitors are also expected to comply with McLeod Country Golf Club’s dress regulations. Motorised carts are permitted for player convenience.
Players interested in participating at the other Western Suburbs Challenge venues should note that Oxley Golf Club hosts events on the first Friday of the month, Gailes Golf Club on the second Friday, and Wolston Park Golf Club on the fourth Friday of each month. Bookings can be made directly through each club’s pro shop.
